Evil Eye Beads

Evil eye beads have been a cultural and religious
symbol around the world for an estimated 3000
years. It is believed that the envy of others can
cause harm to another person. This can be
involuntarily or intentionally, it is said that some
people project an evil eye onto another without
knowledge of doing it. References to evil eyes
can be found in the Bible.

Evil eye beads have been unearthed and dated at
7th century BC. The earliest glass evil eye beads
have a spot with contrasting ring designs. Eye
beads always played an important role in religious
practices, they were believed to have the power
to prevent bad luck and deflect evil.

The determination and origin of glass is difficult
and is not an exact science. For more information
